CHIANG MAI is a much smaller city than Bangkok, but yet one of the main cities in the north of Thailand. It´s very well structured as a square surrounded by a small river (which used to be the old town) and an extension of the city outside of these old walls and gates.
The atmosphere is very different than in Bangkok, the town is full of Buddhist temples, and monks are common seen on the streets. It seems to be the cultural and artistic city in the country, where many people go to learn the secrets of Thai food and massages.
After so many temples we started enjoying more its atmosphere than its arquitecture. Silent, quite, nice colours and always a smiley Thai looking at you, sitting, laying or standing, always smiling. Good company to sit and just think or not even...
Here we were lucky to find the best guesthouse in town. Family run, tree brothers and Mom. The best reggae bar ever: The Freedom of Selly (one of the brothers). A family that treats you as part of it.
They draw maps of secret spots around the village, lend their bikes, shared their cooking...
And supported Argentina in the world cup! Argentina 2 Greece 0, good game.

The Hostel
Giant's 2 -> best hostel in town, if you go to Chiang Mai go there (many people know it by its old name "Banana"). Run by a very friendly family who make you feel at home from day one.
